College Overview
College Death Records and the State System
College is located in Fairbanks North Star Borough, immediately west of Fairbanks and home to the main campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. All death records for College residents are held by the Health Analytics and Vital Records Section (HAVRS) at the state level. The Fairbanks North Star Borough at fnsb.gov handles local government but does not issue death certificates.
Alaska Statute AS 18.50 governs all vital records statewide. Death records are restricted for 50 years from the date of death. Records from before 1975 are now public. Records from 1975 onward require proof of an eligible relationship. The University of Alaska Fairbanks, established in 1917, gives College a longer documented history than many Alaska communities of similar size, and its institutional records may provide supplementary genealogical information.
